About Me

All my life I have had an enduring passion for the Arts, especially for painting, drawing and ceramics, but it wasn't until 2004 that I chanced upon sculpture at one of London's adult colleges. From the very first class I was hooked and thus began my exploration into 3D Art.

I am fortunate that my inspiration also comes from my early experiences of living in Provence, in the south of France: The wonderful landscape, with its limestone outcrops, rolling hills and lavender fields, and the sublime light have drawn many artists to this region for over a century and I continue to appreciate the reasons for the attractions, which are reflected in some of my work.

I love the challenges that sculpture presents, from the forms and their interpretations to the range of materials, then there are the discussions, the exchanges of information and ideas among sculptors and other artists.

I am particularly drawn to the face and the human form: most of my sculptures are made up of portraits and figurative pieces. In portraiture, sympathetic interpretations are achieved as a result of much detailed study and caricature is usually avoided.

I work in clay. From the finished piece I produce a rubber mould from which I can execute limited editions of the work. I cast either into plaster or resin (a combination of copper and bronze, sometimes with iron, graphite or marble). The finished casts are then patinated, the process of patination produce a wonderful range of strong or subtle hues, highlighting form and texture.

Since March 2020, I have started to produce a range of vibrant oil paintings and pastels ranging in subjects as diverse as landscape to surrealist.

I am a member of the Surrey Sculpture Society and I have exhibited at a number of venues in Surrey and Sussex as well as at the Brighton Open Art Houses.

My studio is located near Lewes in East Sussex. Please do contact me to arrange a visit to the studio and/or to discuss and arrange a commission.

All resin sculptures are suitable for both indoor and outdoor display, however plaster cast sculptures should be placed indoors as they are not weather proof.
